MP-Elect Urges Youth to Harness Creative Arts for Growth and Empowerment
The District Woman Member of Parliament–elect, Hon. Enid A. Origumisiriza, has urged young people to take seriously the development of their talents in music, dance, and drama (MDD), highlighting the creative arts as a vital avenue for both personal development and economic empowerment.
She made the remarks while officiating as chief guest at the 2026 Music, Dance and Drama Gala held at Solberg College in Kabale Municipality. The event, held under the theme “Rhythm for Hygiene and Sanitation,” attracted students, teachers, and invited guests in a vibrant celebration of creativity and awareness.
The gala featured a range of performances including speeches, a fashion show, and creative dance, culminating in competitions in traditional folk songs and dances. Participants used the platform not only to showcase their talents but also to communicate important messages on hygiene and sanitation.
In her address, Hon. Enid emphasized the importance of hygiene as a foundation for success in all activities. She encouraged students to maintain cleanliness in their daily lives, noting that good health directly impacts performance and well-being.
She further stressed that while talent can open doors, discipline and character are essential for sustaining success. Drawing from biblical reference, she highlighted the story of Joseph as an example of how character and integrity can elevate individuals to positions of leadership.
The Woman MP-elect also underscored the role of creative arts in shaping discipline and moral values among young people, describing MDD as a constructive outlet for youthful energy that builds confidence and nurtures self-esteem.
Solberg College Principal, Dennis Graham, noted that integrating MDD into the school curriculum has significantly contributed to students’ overall development. He explained that the annual gala, provides learners with an opportunity to relax, express themselves, and discover their talents.
He added that participation in the arts helps students manage stress, build practical skills, and prepare for future opportunities beyond academics, ultimately enabling them to become both creatively empowered and economically self-reliant.
