KAMPALA. Hon. Enid Atuheire Origumisiriza, Woman MP Kabale District, earlier today attended the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection (UPFSP), National Conference at Imperial Royale Hotel in kampala.
The conference focused on extending Social Security to Informal Workers in Refugee and Host Communities and served as an orientation for Members of the 12th Parliament. UPFSP advocates for progressive legislation, sustainable financing, and oversight of social protection across the lifecycle.
While addressing the forum, Hon. Enid raised alarm over the increasing rate of school dropout among boys. She called for targeted social protection and mentorship programs to keep boys in school and give them life skills.
“As we rightfully fight for girls’ education, let us not forget the boy child. The dropout rate for boys is rising, and if we lose them, we lose the future of our families and communities. Social protection must be inclusive, it must protect our elders, our informal workers, and our children, both boys and girls,” Hon. Enid said.
The legislators also discussed lowering the Senior Citizens Grant eligibility age from 85 years to 65 years to benefit older persons earlier. Hon. Enid supported the proposal, saying elders should not wait until 85 to feel government support.
