LIRA CITY, 23rd June 2026. Hon. Enid Origumisiriza “Aunt Enid”, Woman MP Kabale District, today officiated as Guest Speaker during the Church of Uganda Provincial Widows Day Celebrations at Lango Diocesan Grounds, Lira City.
The grounds were filled with widows from across the province. Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, Government Chief Whip, represented by Hon Denis Alyela Omodi, Mp Lira City East Division graced the event as Guest of Honor, while Rt. Rev. Prof. Alfred Olwa, Diocesan Bishop of Lango, led the service as Main Celebrant.
In her address, Hon. Enid spoke directly to widows : “Widowhood is a painful season, but it is not your final address. He who trusts the Lord does not fear, for like Mount Zion, he cannot be shaken… Psalm 125. So I tell you today: get out of self pity and rise up. Your destiny is still intact. Circumstances should not define you.”
She reminded them that God’s heart is with them: “The Bible shows us that God has widows at His heart, Ruth chapter 2. Just as Boaz saw Ruth in the fields and provided for her, You are seen and you are valued.”
Hon. Enid challenged widows to move from mourning to enterprise: “PDM, Emyooga, and other government poverty eradication programs are for you. They were designed to lift households out of poverty. Organize in groups, work hard, and build. Hard work restores the dignity that pity cannot give. Do not wait for handouts. Your hands can build what tears cannot.”
Turning to duty bearers, Hon. Enid called for protection and justice: “Government has the duty. The Church has the duty. The Judiciary has the duty. All leaders must ensure that widows get justice. Protect widows from oppression, land grabbing, and exploitation. Widows are pillars of the community. And God is clear: Do not take advantage of widows. Whoever touches the widow in any way, you touch God Himself.”
