The conference, organized by the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on Social Protection (UPFSP) with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and PROSPECTS, focused on extending social security protection to informal workers in refugee and host communities. The engagement also served as an orientation workshop for Members of Parliament in the 12th Parliament on key social protection issues and the Forum's advocacy agenda.
During the conference, participants discussed strategies for strengthening legislative support, sustainable financing, monitoring, and oversight mechanisms aimed at expanding social protection coverage to vulnerable populations. Particular attention was given to informal workers, refugees, and host communities who continue to face significant social and economic challenges.
The conference provided a platform for legislators and stakeholders to exchange ideas, share experiences, and identify practical policy interventions that can strengthen Uganda's social protection framework and promote equitable development across the country.
Hon. Enid reaffirms her commitment to supporting initiatives and legislation that enhance social security and improve the welfare of Ugandans, particularly those in underserved and vulnerable communities.
