KABALE, 14th Aug 2026. The Woman Member of Parliament for Kabale District, Hon. Enid ORIGUMISIRIZA, has rolled out a major girl-child empowerment initiative with the distribution of sanitary pads to learners in 5 schools across the district.

The campaign reached Rubaya Secondary School, Butanda Secondary School, Butanda Primary School, Kinyamari Primary School, and Rwanyena Primary School, targeting hundreds of girls.

In her engagements with headteachers, teachers, and students, Hon. ORIGUMISIRIZA said the drive is part of her legislative and community agenda to remove structural barriers that continue to push girls out of school.
โ€œEducation is the greatest equalizer. No girl should be left behind because of her period. These pads are about continuity, dignity, and confidence for our daughters. When a girl stays in class, a family is lifted and a nation is built,โ€ she told students at Rubaya SSS.

School administrators described the intervention as timely and impactful. Headteachers noted that lack of sanitary pads has been a leading cause of absenteeism and poor performance among girls, especially in rural schools.

Beneficiaries expressed heartfelt appreciation, saying the support will enable them to attend school throughout the term without fear or shame.

In a strong political commitment, Hon. ORIGUMISIRIZA pledged to escalate the issue to the national stage.
โ€œI have heard you. The need is urgent and it is growing. I will raise the matter on the floor of Parliament and demand that government, through the Ministry of Education and sports, prioritizes free sanitary pads for all school girls,โ€ she vowed.

She further committed to strengthening partnerships with parents, school management, and development partners to expand health, education, and economic empowerment programs for girls across Kabale.

The MP emphasized that investing in girl-child education is not charity, but a national development strategy.
โ€œAn educated girl is an empowered woman. An empowered woman builds a stronger Kabale and a stronger Uganda,โ€ Hon. ORIGUMISIRIZA concluded.
