Kampala,7th July 2026.
Hon. Enid Origumisiriza Atuheire, the Kabale District Woman Member of Parliament, has been designated to the Human Rights Committee, the Public Service Committee, and the Local Government Committee of the Parliament of Uganda.
A newcomer to the 12th Parliament after assuming office in May 2026, Hon. Atuheire brings to these roles years of grassroots advocacy that began long before she joined politics.
The Human Rights Committee is mandated to monitor Ugandaβs human rights situation, investigate complaints of violations, ensure legislation complies with constitutional rights, and conduct oversight visits to detention facilities. The Public Service Committee oversees policy and performance of public institutions and civil servants, while the Local Government Committee handles matters of decentralization, service delivery, and accountability in districts and lower local governments.
Before entering Parliament, Hon. Atuheire was active in Kigezi championing the rights of marginalized groups. She supported survivors of domestic violence to access justice, led child protection initiatives in schools, and advocated for persons with disabilities to access health and education services. She also worked with community paralegals to document and address land rights violations affecting widows and elderly residents.
Her appointments to the three committees now give her a broad platform to contribute to national oversight, from protecting fundamental rights to strengthening public service delivery and local governance.
