HON. ORIGUMISIRIZA SWORN IN AS WOMAN MP KABALE DISTRICT AT 12TH PARLIAMENT SWEARING IN CEREMONY

Kampala, 15th May 2026.

Hon. Enid Origumisiriza has officially been sworn in as the Woman Member of Parliament for Kabale District, marking her entry into Uganda’s 12th Parliament.

The oath was administered today at Parliament House by the Clerk to Parliament during the third and final day of the swearing-in programme for newly elected MPs.
Hon. Origumisiriza took both the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Member of Parliament, as required under Article 74 of the Constitution and the Parliamentary rules.

With this, she formally commences her five-year term representing Kabale District in the 12th Parliament, which will run from 2026 to 2031.

Hon. Origumisiriza won the Kabale District Woman MP seat in the January 15, 2026 general elections on the National Resistance Movement ticket. A former secondary School teacher, campaigned on a platform of improving education, healthcare access, and livelihood support for rural people in Kigezi.

Her swearing-in comes days after she attended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s inauguration at Kololo Independence Grounds on Tuesday, 12th May 2026, where she joined other dignitaries witnessing the start of the President’s seventh term.

The swearing-in of over 500 MPs between 13th and 15th May 2026 completes the formal transition from the 11th to the 12th Parliament.

The 11th Parliament dissolved on 24th April 2026 after passing the 2026/2027 national budget.

The 12th Parliament is scheduled to hold its first sitting on 25th May 2026 to elect the Speaker and Deputy Speaker and set out its legislative agenda. Key priorities for the new term are expected to include implementation of the NRM manifesto, oversight of the national budget, and laws on industrialization, education, and service delivery.

Speaking after the ceremony, Hon. Origumisiriza said her focus will be on “ensuring Kabale’s women and families have a strong voice in Parliament and see tangible improvements in service delivery.”

The 12th Parliament begins at a time when Uganda is pushing its “Protecting the gains, making a qualitative leap into high middle-income status” agenda, following the President’s inauguration under the same theme.
