RUKUNGIRI.
Skills Unlimited Vocational Institute [SUVI], located in Kigina Cell, Kitimba Parish, Rukungiri Municipality, has officially opened its August 2026 intake, offering flexible learning options for students seeking practical, job-ready skills.
The institute is enrolling learners for both online and on-campus programs designed to bridge the skills gap in western Uganda and beyond, to prepare graduates for employment and self-employment.
Flexible Learning for a Changing Workforce
For students unable to attend daily classes, SUVI is offering fully online programs in Business, Accounting, and Social Work. The online mode includes live virtual sessions, recorded lectures, and digital coursework, making it accessible to working adults and learners outside Rukungiri.
On campus, the institute is running Technical and Vocational Education and Training [TVET] courses at both National Certificate and Non-Formal levels. These hands-on programs focus on trades with high demand in the region, including building and construction, motor vehicle mechanics, electrical installation, tailoring, hairdressing, welding, carpentry, and catering.
Focus on Employability and Certification
SUVI says all programs are designed with input from local employers to ensure graduates leave with skills that match market needs.
National Certificate courses are aligned with the Uganda Business and Technical Examinations Board [UBTEB] standards, while Non-Formal programs award recognized institutional certificates. The goal, according to the institute, is to produce graduates who can either join the workforce immediately or start their own small enterprises.
