KAMPALA. Hon. Enid Atuheire Origumisiriza (Aunt Enid), Woman MP Kabale District, today 20th June 2026 officiated as Guest Speaker at a one-day Widows’ Conference held at All Saints Cathedral, Kampala.
The conference was hosted by The Rt Rev. Frederick Jackson, Assistant Bishop of Kampala Diocese and Maama Ruth Balwa under the theme: “Look after orphans and widows in their distress”-James 1:27.
Speaking to hundreds of widows from Kampala and neighboring districts, Hon. Enid reminded them of their value in God’s sight and in society. She drew inspiration from two powerful biblical examples.
First, the Book of Ruth, noting that the Bible honors widows so highly that an entire book is named after one woman.
“Widows are special in God’s sight. If you doubt it, read Ruth. God gave her a whole book in the Bible because her story of loyalty, resilience and faith mattered. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned. You are seen, you are loved, and you have a purpose,” Hon. Enid told the congregation.
She also pointed to the Widow of Nain from Luke 7:11-17, where Jesus met a grieving widow at the city gate and had compassion without being asked.
“Like the Widow of Nain, God sees you at your lowest point — at the city gate of your grief. He steps in with compassion. He restores dignity. Your tears are not invisible to heaven,” she added.
Hon. Enid challenged government, churches, and families to put James 1:27 into action by creating social protection systems, income opportunities, and emotional support for widows and orphans. The legislator reaffirmed her commitment to continue advocating for vulnerable groups including the elderly, informal workers, and children.
The MP broadened the call beyond widows:
“Today we speak for widows, but the message is for all of us. We are challenged to love one another. That love must extend to all marginalized group.
